EPILEPSY GUARD

Real-time screen-flash protection. It watches every monitor and drops a dark overlay the instant dangerous flashing appears — shielding people with photosensitive epilepsy.

/// WHAT IT DOES

  • Captures every monitor via DXGI — sees games, video and browsers, all of it
  • Detects rapid luminance change at the WCAG 2.3.1 threshold (3+ flashes/sec)
  • Drops a dark overlay and desaturates the whole screen the instant flashing starts
  • Fades back out automatically once the flashing stops
  • Multi-monitor, with per-monitor on/off toggles
  • Colour-flash detection (red↔blue and green↔magenta reversals)
  • Colour-correction tools: saturation, lighten darks, dim lights, per-channel tint
  • Lives in the system tray — tiny footprint, no taskbar clutter

/// LOG — WHY IT EXISTS

One friend has epilepsy; another is photosensitive. I couldn't find software that would catch flashes and dim the screen for them — so I built it myself. When I showed them the prototype, they told me it could help a lot of people, not just them. So here it is, and I'll keep improving it.

⚠ NOTICE

Epilepsy Guard is not perfect and still has bugs. It is an assistive aid, not a medical device and not a guarantee — please don't rely on it as your only safeguard.
